Physical Planning Area Studies
The campus has undertaken a number of planning studies to analyze
discrete development areas of the campus and extend its long range
development plans (LRDP
and
CLRDP) by providing more detailed program, site and design
information. These area studies provide updated program
objectives and location-specific design guidelines that are used to
advance development of individual capital improvement projects.

Arts Area Study (May 2004). The
arts area plan examines the campus area devoted to arts programs
and was initiated to consider the long range planning and
development of that area and to confirm a site for the
Digital Arts Facility.

Science and Engineering Area Study (January 2005).
The
science and engineering area plan focuses on the north portion
of the campus core in order to develop a flexible physical master
plan for future development of buildings, outdoor spaces, and
circulation systems within this area. The timing of the study
was linked to the programming phase of the
Biomedical Sciences
Facility in order to identify an appropriate site for that
building in the context of future development.

Marine Science Campus Area Study (December 2008). The Marine Science Campus area plan was developed to create a framework for the next 20 to 30 years of development permitted under the 2008 Coastal Long Range Development Plan, with particular attention to the area in the "middle terrace," where most new development will occur. This plan informed the siting of the Coastal Biology Building.
