2. Agenda
Preparing for Year Round Operations (30 Minutes)
What efforts are generally under way to prepare for
year-round operations? Committee
members identify issues and recommend a process for continuing preparations.
Discussion of Task Force on Intercampus Summer
Enrollment Report (30 Minutes)
Report may
be accessed on the Web at:
http://planning.ucsc.edu/pac/MtgNotes/apc-reading.htm
The shape of the next Major Housing Project
(Colleges 11 & 12) (60 Minutes)
What process should the campus follow to reach a
decision on which housing configuration would best meet future needs in a cost
effective manner?
3. Preparing for Year Round Operations
The committee discussed Year Round Operation plans
for the UC Campuses. UCLA, Santa
Barbara and Berkeley will begin a summer quarter this summer 2001. Other campuses will phase in summer
operations over the next few years.
Each campus will determine how to use the new funding provided for
summer session (State, Educational Fees and Registration Fees). The funding received for number of students
(say 15,000 in 2005-06) will be for all four quarters (no additional funding
for summer). Various issues were also
discussed related to what would need to be offered in the way of student
services, academic programs offered, comparisons with other campuses (UC and
other non-UC summer sessions) etc. It
was recommended that the current Head of Summer Session be invited to talk to
the committee about what services are now offered during the summer versus
what services might be offered in the
Year Round (4th Quarter) Summer Program.
4. Discussion of Task Force on Intercampus
Summer Enrollment Report
The Draft Recommendations of the Task Force on
Intercampus Summer Enrollment included the focus on registration and transfer
of credit for UC students enrolling in summer instruction at a non-home UC
campus. Because they have implications
for the administrative operations of several offices on each campus, as well as
across campuses, each campus was invited to carefully review the
recommendations of the Task Force and respond with comments by March 1,
2001. The recommendations and the UCSC
officer responsible for commenting on each recommendation was drafted and
distributed. These responses will be
collected by Student Affairs and sent to the Task Force on Intercampus Summer
Enrollment.
5. The Shape of the next Major Housing Project
(Colleges 11 & 12)
The focus of the discussion was what should the
decision making process be for development of the College 11 & 12
Site. This site was identified in the
1988 LRDP. The discussion included the
development of multiple plans: Traditional College vs. Modified College vs. No
College; development of an Ad Hoc Committee; possibility of amending the LRDP;
all funding elements for the colleges development investigated; and looking at
everything that the colleges might include (examples: Faculty Housing, Graduate Housing, I & R Space,
Administrative Space, life outside the classroom, shopping facilities,
etc.). It was determined that an Ad Hoc
Committee should be developed including multiple participants representing
various campus units/services/programs (Graduate Studies, Undergraduate
Studies, Student Affairs, TAPS, Capital Planning, Housing, etc.).
6. The Next Meeting of the Acadmic Support
Planning Committee will be on January 30, 2001
