II.  Chair Announcements - Larry Merkley

§         Members of the ITC met last week to discuss IT issues in divisional long-range plans.  Larry used the ideas generated at this meeting to write a report to EVC Simpson.  Some of the topics that were included were: cabling, centralization/decentralization of email services, server management, shared data access, Silicon Valley Regional Center, Technical literacy/training, AIS and Information Technology structure.

The ITC will review the campus’ draft long-range plan in February.

III. AIS Update – Mark Cianca

As stated at the last meeting, SCT announced that they have acquired the Exeter products from Sallie Mae Solutions.  Early indications are that they will not support the Oracle products, but will support Microsoft.

SCT recently sent representatives to campus to discuss our options.  Negotiations with SCT continue, as we attempt to persuade SCT to adopt a maintenance and development strategy for the Oracle products that supports our needs.

IV.  CATS Review Preparation

Pat LeCuyer will present an update on CATS to the ITC in April and October 2002. The April presentation will include the following:

§         Overview of all of the services that CATS provides, including a description of the level of each service

§         A high level overview of what they spend money on

§         An assessment of what services that they can/should provide

At a later stage, ITC will focus on integrating the CATS long range divisional plan and will include an understanding of the CATS budget plan.

In addition to a CATS assessment, the ITC agreed to gather information on the other IT providers on campus, including the academic divisions. Scotty Brookie will provide information for the Arts Division, Terry Schalk for Natural Sciences, Charlie McDowell for Engineering, Bill Hyder for Social Sciences, Bob White for the University Library, and Dan Snodgrass will be invited to contribute information for the Humanities Division.    ITC will be asked to review these preliminary reviews at a future meeting, and will develop a uniform approach to allow the data collection to be scaled to include all divisions.

IV. Systems Development Principles & Guidelines

Larry provided some draft principles and guidelines for systems development.  ITC discussed these ideas and noted a few slight revisions. These will be brought back for discussion after Eric Goodman’s policy project report is reviewed by ITC, expected in February.
