II. Instructional Technology Group ReportBruce Cooperstein

Bruce presented the group with the draft ITG report.  ITC generally supports this document. It was noted that the email services project outlined in the report has already been approved. Another items of note was a suggestion that the student computer literacy recommendation have a place out exam option.

The ITC liked the proposed Instructional Technology Advisory Committee (ITAC), which would report primarily to ITC, but may also work with ACF or other administrative committees on specific issues such as space design. In addition to the items outlined in the report, ITAC should also look at how best to organize faculty support. The membership of ITAC was also discussed.

More information about specific proposals was requested.  Specifically, ITC members would like to see brief summaries of proposed expenditures with dollar amounts.  This responsibility may be asked of ITAC.

This document will be discussed again at the June 27th ITC meeting.

III. Academic Human Resources PresentationNancy Aebersold, Nancy Degnan

Nancy Aebersold gave the ITC an overview of the Bay Area Higher Education Recruitment Consortium (Bay Area HERC) website. This website is a collaborative project with numerous other bay area higher education institutions that is being led by UCSC. The goal of the project is to recruit and retain outstanding faculty, administrators and staff through the sharing of information and resources. The site will go live in August 2002 at www.bayareaherc.org. Until then, a working draft of the site can be viewed at http://herc.ikorb.com/ikorb/ikorb.php.

Nancy Degnan then gave the ITC a demonstration of a new Academic Human Resources tracking system that provides information on instructors such as recruitment details, senate positions held, salary history, leaves, and administrative offices held.  Besides payroll information, most of these aren’t available in any other system. This tracking system will serve as a temporary repository of information until something is rolled out system wide.

Larry thanked the presenters, and noted that both of these projects are examples of innovative applications developed centrally to meet needs that aren’t met anywhere else.
