II.        ITC Discussion Topics for 02-03

Larry asked the committee to suggest topics for discussion for the remainder of the academic year. He highlighted some of the topics that the group will focus on in the coming months which include presentations and/or reports from:

It was suggested that the group discuss ways to leverage IT resources across the campus in light of the recent budget cuts.  With improved organization, some members of the committee believe that the campus could get more efficiency for money that is spent.   There was concern expressed that some units might reduce their local IT resource commitments in ways that could adversely affect their divisions and even the campus interests.

In the context of the campus interest in accelerating projects that could reduce process costs, the point was made that we ought to move ahead with critical IT infrastructure projects to lay a foundation for these projects.   For example, the group mentioned the portal, directory and email projects as essential to streamlining campus IT infrastructure.

ITC will continue this discussion once the campus budget review process begins in January..
