III. IT Priorities - AVCOR Consulting
Scott Nostaja and Chris Sorenson from AVCOR Consulting discussed the role of information technology and the timeline for the Executive Budget Committee (EBC). The effort has been underway for 45 days. The three project teams used the first 20 days to generate ideas about how things could change. The focus of the last 20 days has shifted from idea generation to financial and quality analysis. A report will be delivered to EBC on April 1. After April 1, AVCOR will be looking at solution/design possibilities.
AVCOR is also generating ideas, estimating savings potential, and prioritizing opportunities to determine some quick wins. They believe that costs can be driven out of the organization by the advancement of IT. A number of IT resources are being deployed that could be realigned in a more efficient model. The need for time and attendance is being met by the new system, and there are more opportunities to improve business operations. For example, business service centers could be streamlined by technology.
AVCOR led ITC through a brief exercise to determine the demands on IT and the organizational challenges to meet those demands.
Chris Sorenson will be working specifically on the assessment of the IT organization, and has already interviewed CATS management, staff, and customers to learn more about how it currently operates. Chris has been charged to help form an IT strategic model that could include UC Extension, the library, and divisions.
