8:00                          Campus Email Policy

Reference:                 Resolution on Email to PAC from ITC, May 17, 2002

Task:                          Email is an expected part of the UCSC information technology infrastructure and individual productivity toolset.  It is tightly integrated into the lives of UCSC faculty, staff and students and its extensive use has created an expectation that email be available 24/7.   ITC is submitting the following resolutions for PAC endorsement.  See attachment for details.

 

1.  The Provost’s Advisory Council supports the following vision for email services:

§         Email, as an option for conducting official University business, has tremendous potential for reach and effectiveness;

§         Email services must have a reliable infrastructure that ensures delivery and enables participation; and,

§         Email services must meet campus demands and expectations of the service, including growth, improved security, and email management features.

 

2.   The Provost Advisory Council recognizes and supports:

§         Creating clear mass mailing frameworks and guidelines that promote the use of electronic communications, including email, as a means for official campus communications.

§         Requiring pre-assignment of accounts/email addresses for all incoming students and faculty/staff towards 100% participation.
