ITC, May 17, 2002
Task:
Email is an expected part of the UCSC information technology infrastructure
and individual productivity toolset. It
is tightly integrated into the lives of UCSC faculty, staff and students and
its extensive use has created an expectation that email be available 24/7. ITC is submitting the following resolutions
for PAC endorsement. See attachment
for details.
1. The Provost’s Advisory Council supports the
following vision for email services:
§
Email, as an
option for conducting official University business, has tremendous potential
for reach and effectiveness;
§
Email services
must have a reliable infrastructure that ensures delivery and enables
participation; and,
§
Email services
must meet campus demands and expectations of the service, including growth,
improved security, and email management features.
2. The Provost Advisory Council recognizes and
supports:
§
Creating clear
mass mailing frameworks and guidelines that promote the use of electronic
communications, including email, as a means for official campus communications.
