One major issue under discussion within CWC in 2003-2004 is Campus Child Care.
In its July 2000 Task Force on Child Care Policy and Programs (Policy, Planning and Research), the Office of the President recommended that each campus constitute a committee to provide guidance to campus implementation of child care programs and services. While UCSC has been providing child care for thirty years, increased demands on existing programs as well as opportunities to build new facilities have underscored the need for such an advisory group for our campus.
In June 2003, the CWC requested and received support and concurrence from Campus Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor John Simpson to establish the Child Care Advisory Committee.
The overarching purpose of a Child Care Advisory Committee (CCAC) will be to contribute to the recruitment, retention, and productivity of faculty, staff and students by enhancing the quality and augmenting the quantity of campus child care programs and services. The CCAC will be a standing advisory committee that will report to the Campus Welfare Committee. Click here to see the charge to the CCAC. The CCAC will include faculty, staff, students and administrators, representing a wide range of campus units directly or indirectly affected by child care issues. Membership on the committee will be for a two-year term - appointment will run for the 2003-2004 and 2004-2005 academic years. Other major issues that the CWC has discussed this year include:
