Graduate Program Development—a History and Prospectus
UC Santa Cruz was founded in 1965 with an entering class of 650
undergraduates; in 1966, three Ph.D. programs opened with an
entering cohort of 26 students. In 2003-04, the campus
enrolled 1,286 graduate students in thirty one programs (Ph.D.,
Masters, and Certificate).
The following displays provide overviews of the development of UCSC
graduate programs by timeline and division as well as the record of
doctoral degrees conferred.
