1.4:
The institution publicly states its commitment to academic freedom for
faculty, staff, and students, and acts accordingly. This commitment affirms
that those in the academy are free to share their convictions and
responsible conclusions with their colleagues and students in their teaching
and in their writing.

UC Santa Cruz Summary of Evidence |
As codified in the
Academic
Personnel Manual, the University is committed to upholding and
preserving principles of academic freedom, which enable the University to
advance knowledge and to transmit it effectively to its students and the
public. There is a standing committee of the UC Santa Cruz academic senate
on Academic Freedom to
monitor the status of academic freedom on the campus. The issue of
academic freedom has been the subject of extensive system-wide discussion
in the UC senate and new guidelines and procedures are being implemented.
